Mariah

Is Mariah Writing An Online Story?

If she is, it's another one of her talents that she's keeping secret. Glitter was good. A spy for The New York Post tells me that Mariah has indeed penned a story and posted it online with the name "Casey Thomas" as its author. If you want to check out, click here.

Launch.com caught up with Ludacris recently and asked him about his guest appearance on Mariah Carey's 'Loverboy' track ('Glitter'). "I feel extraordinary about being on the Mariah Carey record, because she only works with selective rappers from what I've seen, and this is way before I got signed," he said. "You can just tell that she tries to pick out the ones that are in the streets heavy, or the ones that are really popular, or a combination of both. So any time you see a rapper on her record, you can tell that either she has put a lot of thought into it or her crew has put a lot of thought into it. Like, 'We need this person to balance off this side of it.' You have the commercialized side of things and you have the street side of things. She's trying to capture a different audience, and so maybe by her getting me for a song I felt privileged, because they knew I have a certain audience that they want to capture. She picked us because of the 'What's Your Fantasy?' song. And she got a lot of money, too. So it was good breaking bread with Mariah Carey and drinking Cristal in the studio. She's a real down-to-earth person, and I really hope to work with her again."

Listen to Through The Rain

A very good friend of mine, who is  a spy for the NY Times and the NY Post sent me a 50-second clip of Mariah's brand-new, never-before-heard ballad and lead-off single for her new album. I can only leave it up until Wednesday of next week, because I'm really not supposed to have it. Be one of the few Mariah fans to here this song before it hits radio! Remember, you have until next Wednesday to download this exclusive mp3.

Listen To Through The Rain-Update 9.10.02

Someone claiming to be from Def Jam contacted my friend that sent me the clip. Unfortunately, I had to take the clip off Pop Wire so Mariah wouldn't sue my friend. Apologies to her and Def Jam. You can, however, download a rare commercial Mariah did for Kose Lipstick. Check out the Artist Of The Month section of this site. From the looks of it, Mariah shot this commercial during the Daydream era.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez Scares Off Men--What A Shock!

Superstar Jennifer Lopez needs a man that can cope with her incredible success, so her new beau Ben Affleck is the perfect choice.

The Latina singer, actress, fashion designer, perfumer and restaurateur filed for divorce from her dancer husband Cris Judd earlier this year and it's been reported Cris was unable to cope with his wife as breadwinner.

J.Lo says, "Women today are much more independent than before because social values have changed and men find that frightening. Men are used to being the breadwinners and having the upper hand. On the one hand, I believe in these traditional values, on the other the modern woman in me is screaming for independence."

"Men sit and ask themselves, 'Oh my God, how am I going to handle this?' But I think there are also men who are self-assured enough to cope with it." (WENN)

Mariah On Rove

Mariah On Rove

Femalemusic.info has a video clip  posted featuring Mariah Carey on Rove[live] in Australia on  July 2001, just before her breakdown and the release of her movie and album 'Glitter'. Mariah did the interview after being up for twenty hours straight while wrapping up 'Wisegirls'. Carey went into character mode doing Rachel's (Wisegirls) Staten Island accent, talked about her big contract with Virgin Records, how she got started in the music business, the disfunction in her life, and how her mother was a drama queen diva. If you register on the site, you can download the zip file in the downloads section.

Jennifer Lopez told the Scottish Daily Record that she is ready to have children with Ben Affleck ."I definitely want to have children, I just don't know when," she said. "It will just happen naturally, I guess. I'm not going to think about schedules or make specific plans."

American Idol champ Kelly Clarkson now has a recording contract with the show's executive producer Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Limited. The company will license Clarkston's solo album to RCA in the United States. Aside from creating and producing the U.K.'s Pop Idol and American Idol, Fuller is best known for launching the Spice Girls and S Club 7 and managing their careers.

The first release of the deal will be a double A-side single, "Before Your Love"/"A Moment Like This," which comes out September 17. Clarkson's full-length major label debut will follow in early 2003. "Before Your Love" was penned by Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin), Cathy Dennis ( Kylie Minogue, Spice Girls ( news - web sites)), and Gary Burr (Wynonna, Collin Raye). Jorgen Elofsson ( Britney Spears) and John Reid wrote "A Moment Like This."

"From the moment that Kelly sings the first line of 'Before Your Love,' you are completely captivated," Child said. "She has a triumphant grandeur in her voice that establishes her firmly as the new 'Queen of Soul.'"

RCA Music Group Chairman Bob Jamieson said in a statement, "We're thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Kelly on her recording career. As we saw on the show, her preserving work ethic and ability to maintain her composure in the most high-pressure of situations--not to mention her stunning voice--showcase what a great talent she truly is."

Jennifer Lopez Says Her Music Isn't Of Black Origin
The following is a MOBO  article I received via e-mail:

J-LO NO TO A MOBO Sep 7 2002
Diva tells moguls her music doesn't have black roots

>Rick Fulton Exclusive

>JENNIFER Lopez's work with rap stars P Diddy and Ja Rule have helped her
>sell
>millions of albums over the world.
>
>So organisers of the Music Of Black Origin Awards naturally wanted to
>include
>the singer and actress on their annual compilation album.
>
>J-Lo is one of the biggest stars of the genre, last week scooping an MTV
>Award for best hip-hop video and last year happily accepting two MOBO
>nominations.
>
>But it seems the fiery diva had other ideas.
>
>In a sternly written letter, La Lopez has refused to let any of her songs
>be
>included on the MOBO 2002 album.
>
>Her reason? She doesn't consider her music to be of "black origin".
>
>The stroppy diva says her work - which has featured hardcore US rapper Nas

is of Latin origin and that she doesn't want anything to do with the
celebratory collection.

Our inside source told us: "No one at MOBO could believe it when J-Lo told
them why she didn't want to be on the compilation.

"If she'd just said she didn't want to be on it, then fine.

"But to claim her music isn't of black origin is a joke.

"On what grounds is it Latino music? It's not like she's singing in
Spanish.

"It will be nice to hear what people like P Diddy, Ja Rule and Nas think of
her comments. Without them she probably wouldn't have had so many hits or
number one albums."

Her refusal to appear on the CD, which features music from Ms Dynamite,
Jamiroquai and the Sugababes, is bound to anger fans.

Many of whom would be suprised to hear that she doesn't describe her music
has
a mixture of R&B and hip-hop.

Last year she faced protests and accusations of racism after using the word
"nigger" on her smash hit, I'm Real.

The track was said to be about her failed romance with music mogul P Diddy
and it caused a storm. Defending her use of the word she said: "For anyone
to
suggest or say that I am racist is really absurd and hurtful to me.

"The use of the word in the song was not meant to be hurtful to anyone in
anyway."

The MOBO Awards, which take place at London Arena on October 1, were
initiated to recognise the success of R&B, reggae, dance, jazz, gospel and
hip hop acts - urban artists.

A MOBO spokesperson said: "With collaborations with urban artists we are
surprised that she would accept a recent best hip-hop award and previous
MOBO
nominations, but not consider her style of music to be of black origin.

"A statement from Jennifer Lopez to her UK label states that she doesn't
consider her music to be of black origin."

A spokesperson for J-Lo hit back saying: "The record company acts as the
go-between for an artist like Jennifer.

"They negotiate with the artist and the people making the compilation
album.

"It can be very complicated."
